What ACC covers
ACC covers dental injury caused by an accident - a fall, a knock playing sport, a bike or ski accident, or a car accident. It does not cover damage from decay or ordinary wear, or a tooth that chips or cracks while eating, which is the distinction that decides most claims.
- Chipped, cracked or broken teeth
- Teeth knocked out or knocked loose
- Damage to existing fillings, crowns or dentures caused by an accident
- Injury to the jaw, gums or soft tissues of the mouth

Between the ski fields, the bike park and the lake, we see a steady stream of dental injuries here - and a good share of them belong to visitors who are a long way from their own dentist. If that is you, come in anyway. ACC covers people injured in New Zealand, including many visitors, and we can talk you through whether your situation qualifies.
How the claim works
We lodge it. You do not need to have filed anything before you come in - we complete the ACC form as part of your appointment.
ACC contributes towards the cost of treatment rather than always covering all of it, so there may be a surcharge depending on what is needed. We will tell you what that looks like before treatment starts.
