Restorative dentistry in Queenstown

Restorative dentistry is about repairing what has been damaged and stopping the damage continuing - decay, worn enamel, receding gums, and the effects of grinding.

Restorative dentistry at Lakeside Dental Practice

What it covers

These treatments have one thing in common: they deal with a process rather than a one-off event. Decay, gum disease and tooth wear all progress quietly until something breaks or starts hurting, and the whole point of treating them is to intervene before that.

  • White composite fillings using modern nanotechnology materials
  • Gum and periodontal treatment
  • Night guards for grinding and clenching
  • Custom devices for snoring and mild sleep apnoea
  • Management of jaw joint pain (TMD)
  • Rebuilding worn or eroded teeth

Finding the cause, not just patching it

A tooth that has worn flat has worn flat for a reason. Replacing the lost surface without addressing the grinding, acid erosion or bite problem behind it means doing the same work again in a few years.

We look at why the damage happened as part of treating it - which sometimes means the answer is a night guard rather than a set of fillings.

Restorative Dentistry - common questions

Do you still use amalgam fillings?
We use tooth-coloured composite. As well as looking better, modern composites bond to the tooth, which means less healthy tooth structure has to be removed to hold the filling in place.
My teeth are wearing down. Can that be fixed?
Worn teeth can be rebuilt, but the first job is working out the cause - grinding, acid erosion from diet or reflux, or an uneven bite. Treating the cause is what stops it recurring.
