Full and partial
A full denture replaces all the teeth in an upper or lower jaw. A partial fills the gaps where some natural teeth remain, clipping discreetly to them for support.
Partials have a second job worth knowing about: by filling the gaps, they stop the remaining teeth drifting and tilting into the space.
Getting the fit right
A denture is made over several appointments - impressions, a bite registration, a try-in in wax so you can see the shape and shade before it is finished, then the fit itself.
The try-in matters. It is much easier to change the shape of a tooth in wax than to argue with a finished denture, and it is your chance to say it does not look right.
Settling in, relines and repairs
New dentures take some getting used to - speech and eating both feel odd for a while, and sore spots are normal in the first days. Come back and let us adjust them rather than putting up with it.
Over time the gum and bone underneath change shape and the fit loosens. A reline restores it without remaking the whole denture. We also repair broken dentures.
Implant-supported dentures
If a lower denture will not stay put, a small number of implants can be used to anchor it. It is a bigger investment, but for people who have struggled with a loose lower denture for years it is often the thing that finally works.
