A check-up usually covers the examination itself, with X-rays and a scale and clean often quoted separately. Ask what's included when you book so the total is clear. Children and teenagers up to 18 are covered under the free School Dental Scheme.
We'll give you a figure, not a range
Quoting a national average here wouldn't help you much - the cost depends on your teeth. After an examination we'll give you a written plan with the cost of each item, before any treatment is booked. Ring 03 441 8248 and we'll arrange it.
What changes the price
- Whether it's an examination alone or includes a scale and clean
- Whether X-rays are taken
- Whether it's a first visit, which usually takes longer
- How much cleaning is needed if it's been a while
What's usually included
The examination itself covers your teeth, gums and the soft tissues of your mouth, plus a discussion of anything found. A scale and clean is often done at the same appointment but quoted as its own item, and X-rays are charged when they're taken.
Practices vary in how they bundle this. The useful question when booking is simply: what will today cost, including a clean?
Free care for under-18s
Basic dental care is publicly funded for children and teenagers up to their 18th birthday. We're a registered adolescent provider, so check-ups and standard treatment cost nothing in that age group.
The cheapest appointment you'll have
A check-up is the appointment that stops the expensive ones. Decay found early is a small filling; the same tooth left two years is a crown or a root canal. That's not a sales line - it's the entire economic argument for going.
